From Shattered to Unbreakable

Life has a way of testing the waters, making us uncomfortable enough to push and push further enough until we break. There is only one direction left after being down that much, going up.

My path has been full of these tests and you know what I gained? I gained how to be resilient in all the adversities. I learnt how to turn this pain into power. I learnt how to convert my limitations into breakthroughs. Here is my story, coming straight to you without any fluff … the real authentic flow of my life’s stormy waters that unlocked the most powerful version of myself.

I grew up in poverty in a third-world country, where being a girl meant constant limitations… not allowed to think about education or career. The main purpose of the life was to learn the skills that will make me a good wife and a good daughter in law. Anything to get me that perfect match. As a daughter, I felt like a burden. I was not the son who could support my parents in old age. But deep down, I couldn’t accept staying small. I fought for my education. Everyone said it was unnecessary as it would ruin marriage prospects. But all it did was give me more energy and burn the fire inside me harder and stronger. I pushed through school, won prizes early on, and convinced my dad to let me pursue Computer Science despite heavy family opposition.

Studying at the top Computer Science university was not a walk in the park either. These private schools would take your kidney to fund your education if they could. I did however get myself enrolled at the top CS college in the country, the only caveat, it was a private school. The way forward was to fund the education, and I did, by entering a national exam, ranked in the top 50, and earned my full ride scholarship to finish my school. I became the first woman in my family to graduate college with a professional degree. I opened up pathways for all the younger girls in my family.

Remember, per my family all my life was ever about was to find a good husband? That is what happened even before finishing school. I became wife, daughter-in-law, and eventually a mother, layers added fast. Motherhood demanded everything: every meal, school run, homework struggle, doctor appointment, activity. I poured my life into theirs, pampering them fiercely. Being a mom was often the only thing keeping me going when exhaustion and pain tried to win.

Then came January 2012 when my body shut down completely with the organs failing. The sepsis came after one of my 13 surgeries I experienced since my first child’s pregnancy. My survival was a miracle with no amputations and no permanent major damage. But the aftermath felt like anything but that miracle. Recovery dragged on endlessly. It amplified old joint pain, triggered fibromyalgia, autoimmune issues, and migraines so severe they leave me in darkness for days…. As if the physical pain wasn’t enough, people around me threw emotional pain of betrayal and breaking my trust. I pulled into a shell, disconnected from the world to shield myself from more hurt. Shattered. For years, I questioned if being saved was a blessing or a curse? Why survive if the pain just keeps coming?

Yet that crisis became the pivot. After it, I found my only true reason to being alive, my kids. I spent years just living and breathing volunteering for education, advocating for the tiny humans, teaching them all the Tech world had to offer. Not just my own kids, I ran school district wide programs. The passion that started with my children soon impacted hundreds and thousands of the children each year. Until I decided to step into the corporate world after more than a decade of break.

I was told every step of the way no one starts working after 13 years of graduating college. I was not good enough. But here it was again!!! The challenge to do something people thought was impossible was staring right into my face. And the only way forward was to make it happen. I stepped into the corporate world with my very first job at Microsoft. The dream I had since I was 11 years old was finally a truth in my life. A few years later I joined twitter which became X and I survived all the brutal layoffs while adapting to massive changes.

Cultural pressures kept pushing me to accept, settle, stay quiet, and live half a life. I balanced work demands, handled betrayals and losses, navigated flare-ups that stole my time and energy. The body kept betraying me. Relationships faded. I worked past all of it.

Resiliency isn’t about never breaking; it’s about refusing to stay broken.

Childhood limits taught me to fight for what matters.

The septic shock forced me to confront survival itself, stripping away illusions.

Corporate challenges built my ability to adapt when everything shifts.

Motherhood gave me iron discipline and a purpose bigger than myself.

Every battle, be it physical, emotional, or cultural, taught me to love myself the hard way, through tears, trials, and slow rebuilds.

Resiliency unlocks your deepest potential by forging you in the fiercest fire. Hardships are not punishments, they are the relentless force that strips away illusions, burns through weakness, and reveals the raw, unbreakable core of who you can become. They demand you confront your limits, then shatter them. They teach you that survival is not the end goal; transformation is.

I went from lying in darkness, questioning why I was spared only to suffer, to standing tall and claiming my power. From retreating into a shell being silent, disconnected, and afraid of more pain, to opening up here, sharing my unfiltered truth with all of you. That shift didn’t happen gently. It was earned through every tear, every flare-up, every lonely night when giving up felt easier.

If you’re in the middle of your own storm right now with body failing, heart breaking, hope fading, you know what to do. You keep going!!! Lean into the hard parts. Let the pain do its work. Your breakthrough isn’t waiting beyond the storm, it’s being sculpted inside it.
